Comprehensive Immigration Reform

For over two decades, Congress has failed to provide us with a rational, comprehenimmigration reformsive and humane solution to the immigration issue our country is facing. Our country needs a Comprehensive Immigration Reform that will:

  • Create a path to legal permanent residency for undocumented immigrants living in the U.S.
  • Keep families together
  • Reunify families by eliminating decade-long application backlogs
  • Guarantee full labor protections and rights for all workers
  • Ensure the safety and security of our nation
  • Support immigrant communities in becoming fully integrated into this country.

On June 22nd, 2011 Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and six other Senate Democrats introduced the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2011 that includes a pathway to earned legalization for the 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the US, the DREAM Act and Ag Jobs, border enforcement, employer sanctions,  and addresses future immigration flows.

According to a report by Dr. Hinojosa-Ojeda, a comprehensive immigration reform would:

  • Give the U.S. a $1.5 trillion gross domestic product over 10 years.
  • Increase tax revenues from $4.5 to $5.4 billion in the first 3 years.
  • Increase consumer spending—which would to support 750,000 to 900,000 jobs in the U.S.
