Music Artists

Cristian Cañaveral

Cristian Cañaveral is a young 22-year-old Colombian artist, who began to develop his passion for music and singing since he was a child. That premature musical talent was carried out to several presentations in important settings of his country and won various children singing contests. At the age of four, the guitar became his inseparable companion. This young singer began writing his own songs at the age of thirteen. Nine years ago, he arrived to North Carolina with the vision of going beyond borders with his music. Today he is captivating the public of our community with his voice, his songs and his guitar. After an arduous work of composition and production, in December of 2009, he debuted his album "My Guitar and I", with eight of his own songs, promoting the first single "All and Nothing". Cristian Cañaveral continues harvesting success and following the dream of arriving with his music to the ears and the hearts of the entire world.

Eduardo Moran

La Trova - For me, La Trova is beyond poetry, guitar and voice in perfect harmony; is a way of life, human and moral principles always embedded in the songs. It is the voice of the masses, bad loves and bad moods, feelings and thoughts side by side with Chords and Words… always attempting to be perpetual in our time-space.

Trova means: Perpetuity in thought. Definition that has been perfectly described by our ancestors: In Xochitl ... In Cuicatl ... “Flower and Song”.

DIFFERENT DRUM AFRO/LATIN ENSEMBLE

Soulful Brazilian sambas, Cuban salsa, Playful calypsos, swinging jazz, and the danceable groove of South African Township music are some of the fabric that holds this band together.

As reviewer Alan Hall of the Chapel Hill Herald has said:
"Different Drum is exactly that. This is not your run of the mill jazz ensemble. There is something almost primitive in these works, calling forth that being inside us that wants to leap and dance. The many subtle and not-so-subtle rhythms that the group incorporates add more than simply another dimension to the music; they add a magnetic, hypnotic siren song that invites the listener into the music."

Li-Lan & Alex (Señor Blanco y la Chinita) also offer bi-lingual music and stories.
Alex is also available for Afro/Latin percussion workshops.

Alex Weiss & Different Drum are available for festivals, concerts, clubs and private parties. We offer school performances and residencies through Fayetteville/Cumberland County Arts Council and the Wake County/United Arts Community Arts Reach program. We perform as a trio, four, or five piece ensemble.
