El Pueblo Movie Series: Friday, April 28th, we will be kicking off El Pueblo’s new monthly movie night series. It will be a fun, no-commitment opportunity for community members of all ages to watch films that touch on issues we might not get to cover in our day to day programming and participate in a discussion. This month we will be watching Moonlight. Moonlight is a 2016 American coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Barry Jenkins, based on Tarell Alvin McCraney's unpublished semi-autobiographical play. “In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue.” The film presents three stages in the life of the main character Chiron, a young black man growing up in 1980’s Miami. It explores the struggles he faces with hi...s own sexuality and identity, and the physical and emotional abuse he receives as a result of it. Watch the trailer here. All ages are welcome to attend the film screening, however the movie is rated R for mature content. We will provide popcorn and water & you are encouraged to bring their own snacks for themselves or to share. We will have Spanish subtitles available and can provide child care with at least one week’s notice.
