El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), knownbook as Día, is a celebration EVERY DAY of children, families, and reading that culminates every year on April 30. The celebration emphasizes the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Viva Raleigh's purpose is to connect members of the Hispanic-Latino community with agencies and services to help improve their quality of life. Viva Raleigh helps to engage Spanish-speaking residents with the larger Raleigh community. It is organized by a committee of Raleigh residents and the City of Raleigh Community Services Department.

International Family Conference: Emerging Leaders (May 7)

The English as a Second Language Department of Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) and the Wake County Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) Council will be holding their first Annual K-12 International Family Conference: “Emerging Leaders” on Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The conference will be held at Millbrook High School, 2201 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh, NC.
We will offer K-12 workshops for parents and students. The conference is free of charge to all attendees and community agencies. The objective is to provide parents with the educational tools to better help their children reach academic success, to graduate on time and to continue to pursue a higher education. Interpretation will be provided in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Korean and Spanish.
Some of the topics to be covered include:

  • Supporting Literacy at Home,
  • Understanding Grade Curriculum Connection,
  • Transitioning to Middle and High School,
  • High School Graduation Requirements,
  • College Admission, Financial Aid and Scholarship Opportunities.
  • And Schools Cultural Performances and Exhibits, Community Resources, College/University Information Booths.
