Ask Gov. Perdue to VETO HB 36

On Tuesday night, the NC Senate passed HB 36- Government Contractors Must Use E-verify. Also on Tuesday the NC Senate amended HB 36 to include cities and counties. As part of the legislative process, the Senate and the House have identified representatives from each Chamber to form a Conference Committee to come to an agreement on the final version of this bill. It is very likely that this bill will be sent to the desk of Governor Perdue as early as TODAY to be signed into law.

We urge you to take action by:

1) Calling Governor Perdue's office at (919) 733-4240 and ask her to VETO HB 36 if it gets to her desk. Talking points available here.

2) Signing this petition by the Latin American Coalition & NCLR urging Gov. Perdue to VETO HB 36.

HB 36, Senate version: "An act to require counties, cities, and entities who contract with a government agency in this state for construction or repair work and their subcontractors to use the federal e-verify program to verify the work authorization of newly hired employees."

Studies have shown that the E-Verify program is riddled with errors that end up hurting workers who are US citizens and those who are authorized to work in the country.

Please stand against HB 36 and TAKE ACTION!

NCDOT 2040 Plan SurveyNCDOT

The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) wants you to help plan North Carolina’s future transportation system by being part of the development of the updated Statewide Transportation Plan, also called the 2040 Plan. The plan serves as a blueprint for transportation planning and investment over the next 30 years. Because transportation projects can require years to plan, design and build, NCDOT must look ahead 25-30 years to identify the transportation needs of our state. NCDOT will use the input from North Carolinians to develop the plan, along with an investment strategy to fulfill it.

Your input is important to the 2040 Plan. Please take a moment to answer the following questions about your use of transportation.
