Vision
El Pueblo envisions a just and equal community where all Latinos are respected, valued, and engaged across North Carolina

Mission
El Pueblo’s mission is to effect positive social change through community collaboration and partnership, leadership development, advocacy, education, health promotion and cross-cultural understanding. 

El Pueblo Values...                                      
...advocacy by bringing forward the voices  of NC Latinos to pursue a collective advancement of social justice and political power through civic engagement, leadership development, community organizing and partnerships with allies and policy-makers.
...leadership development that is inclusive, intergenerational and participatory; El Pueblo values activities that create spaces for mutual education and empowerment by building upon the experiences of both educators and learners and providing leadership opportunities for youth and adults.
...cultural celebration and exchange that promotes pride and appreciation.
...community by recognizing and supporting the rights, strengths, and experiences of the Latino community; seeking appreciation, connection and ownership; and ensuring that our community’s voice is respected and represented at all levels.
...service with the Latino community, rather than “for” the Latino community.  El Pueblo works through participatory programs, alongside volunteerism, and collaborating with partnership.
...collaboration with community members, other organizations, allies and government leaders across North Carolina, and, collaboration within El Pueblo that reaches across divisions to unify resources with diverse partners.
...social justice that respects the inherent worth, dignity, and rights of all; social justice that addresses the root causes of social problems such as the need for and access to personal and public safety; social justice that gives people access to education at all levels, to quality health services, to economic opportunity and to employment with benefits.

Strategic Planning Goals

Goal # 1.  Recruit, develop and retain a passionate and resourceful staff that reflects El Pueblo’s mission and brings honor to our community:
Hire an Executive Director

  • El Pueblo Board hires ED who is aligned with its mission and has the credentials and experience to lead the organization.

Review and revise EP’s internal structure to support staff and programming

  • El Pueblo’s internal communication is improved.
  • Staff morale is strengthened.
  • Low/reduced employee turnover.
  • El Pueblo’s staff is productive and committed to its mission.

Hire and retain resourceful new staff

  • El Pueblo hires and retains resourceful staff, with credentials and experience to deliver high quality programs.

Goal # 2.  Achieve financial stability by strategically diversifying El Pueblo’s sources of funding and engaging all who are involved with the organization:
Hire Development Coordinator to manage El Pueblo fundraising efforts.

  • El Pueblo fundraising efforts are coordinated and effective.
  • Position becomes sustainable through its own fund generation.
  • Position raises funds to support other administrative positions.

Create strategies to cultivate new individual donors.

  • All El Pueblo board members and staff are engaged in organizational fundraising efforts as they are able.
  • Individual donor budget line item increases and continues to grow.
  • Diversification of El Pueblo’s income sources.

Cultivate current and lapsed donors and funders.

  • El Pueblo holds regular funder/donor-focused events to create and maintain relationships with supporters.
  • EP income from individuals and donors is stable and dependable organizational resource.

Goal # 3.    Develop a diverse and committed Board of Directors that remains engaged and accountable to the Latino community:
Recruit and sustain a high functioning Board

  • Ensure diversity on Board
  • Nominating Committee functions optimally
  • Board terms of service observed

Re-energize Board of Directors.

  • Committee work supports programs and services
  • Board participates in fundraising
  • Board self-evaluation indicates active engagement

Review and Revise By-laws

  • Board uses by-laws to guide its work.
  • Term limits observed.
  • Board reviews by-laws every 2-3 years.

Ensure optimum Board-Staff communication & support

  • Improved Board-Staff relations
  • Greater engagement and cooperation to meet El Pueblo’s mission and goals

Goal # 4.    Provide focused and interconnected programs that reflect El Pueblo’s mission and the needs of the community it serves:
Create Community Advisory Board.

  • El Pueblo programming reflects the community input via the Advisory Board.
  • Advisory Board brings recommendation proposals from the community to the Board of Directors.
  • At least 1 Advisory Board member serves on El Pueblo’s Board of Directors.

Prioritize programming based on community need

  • Programs retention & creation based on community needs
  • Recommendations of Advisory Board are reflected on new grants

Integrate Positive Youth Development (PYD) principles in EP leadership and youth programming structures.

  • PYD is integral in EP’s mission, vision, and strategic plan
  • Meaningful and active participation by youth, family members, and community in EP projects, programs, leadership, and decision making.
  • Positive shift in El Pueblo, Inc.’s organizational culture around PYD tenets
  • Youth programming addresses actual youth need within a holistic structure
  • El Pueblo’s position on advocacy is clear and well understood by the community.
  • El Pueblo updates its materials and message regularly to reflect the changing needs of the community.
  • El Pueblo’s program and activities are aligned with its message.

Create a communication plan for the Board and Staff

  • Informed community, board and staff
  • Prestige/ Improve our image in the community
  • Knowledge about EP work (internal /external)
  • Avoid mistakes in the communication material

Educate the community about El Pueblo and increase awareness about EP Programs

Goal # 6.     Produce tangible measurable results that positively impact El Pueblo and the community:
Inventory current evaluation measures

  • El Pueblo uses inventory to structure overall organizational evaluation.
  • El Pueblo conducts regular internal evaluations.

Create process for regular evaluations of programs, board and staff

  • El Pueblo’s reflects a philosophy of regular evaluation and strives for improvement

Goal # 7.      Strengthen existing and form new mutually beneficial partnerships and collaborations around shared values and commitments that advance the community wellbeing:
Evaluate current partnerships/collaborations.

  • El Pueblo collaborates with community partners on events, joint statements and programming.
  • NC Latino voice is strengthened.
  • Collaborations generate more revenue and leverage funding for El Pueblo.

Replicate successful collaborations models

  • El Pueblo’s programming, events, activities reflect collaborative structure.
  • El Pueblo’s Board supports collaborative structure and uses it for future work.
