EL PUEBLO STATEMENT REGARDING CHARLESTON SHOOTINGS

On behalf of El Pueblo, our members, volunteers and staff, we stand in solidarity with the victims and families of last week’s shootings at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC, and with our Black sisters and brothers who continue to fight for racial justice.  As an organization with the vision of an equal and just society for all, we strongly condemn this act of violence and the systemic racism that continues to fuel these types of hate crimes in our communities.  This massacre is a tragic reminder that while we have made some strides in fighting bigotry, there is much more work to be done.  Our commitment to social justice is not truly complete until events such as these fade into history.
