La Fiesta del Pueblo 2011!

In this issue we focus on "La Fiesta Del Pueblo"

La Fiesta del Pueblo was a huge success this year. For the first time the event was held in Downtown Raleigh, at Moore Square. The weather cooperated and everybody had a great time. Festival goers were happy that we returned the event outdoors. The folkloric dances were spectacular. The music was as good as ever. The arts and crafts booths were rich with interesting products from Latin America. The tacos, pupusas and elotes were delicious and the non-profit booths had a very productive day in reaching out to the over 7,000 festival goers. This Fiesta we partnered with Marbles Children's Museum (http://www.marbleskidsmuseum.org/) as they hosted our Niñolandia fair on the north end of the Zócalo (Moore Square) and inside their courtyard. Over 500 of our Latino families discovered Marbles on Fiesta day, giving them free access to a great learning experience for children under 12 years of age.

Special Recognition of TROSA (Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers)

For the past 10 years El Pueblo has been relying on TROSA (http://www.trosainc.org/) to help with the logistics of setting up and breaking down La Fiesta del Pueblo. This is no small task, as putting on Fiesta is like building a little village overnight to house 10,000 people. One has to admire the dedication of the TROSA workers as they assemble booths, set up tables and chairs, place barricades and keep the grounds clean throughout the event. They take special care to make Fiesta an enjoyable event for everyone. We would like to formally thank Kevin McDonald, the Executive Director of TROSA for his contribution to El Pueblo and Randy Garcia who so diligently manages the project. We could not do it without you.
